How LRM airport pickup works

The commercial-arrival guidance below covers immigration, baggage, customs and meeting your driver at the commercial terminal. For a private-flight arrival, first confirm the terminal and permitted meeting point with the operator or handler.

The terminal and the meet point

LRM has a main commercial terminal and a separate general aviation terminal, west of it, for private and executive aviation. Confirm which terminal your flight uses with the operator or ground handler. Commercial-arrivals instructions do not automatically apply to a private flight; ‘charter’ alone does not identify the terminal.

For a confirmed commercial-terminal pickup, the driver meets you in the arrivals greeting area after customs with your name sign. For private aviation, agree the permitted exit and meeting place with the operator or handler and dispatch. Do not assume the commercial exit, apron access or a greeting beside the aircraft.

Flight tracking and late flights

We enter your flight number into tracking the day before. LRM handles a handful of scheduled arrivals a day plus charters and private aircraft, so a schedule change is easy for us to follow — if you land early or three hours late, the pickup moves with the aircraft.

Waiting time caused by the airline is never billed. If you miss the flight entirely, send the new flight number on WhatsApp and we rebook the transfer free of charge whenever a vehicle is available.

How long it takes to get out

Plan 15 to 30 minutes from wheels down to the arrivals door. When a charter from Europe and a regional flight land together the hall fills briefly and it can stretch toward 40 minutes — the driver watches the board and waits.

Child seats

Tell us the child's age and weight when you book. We install infant and booster seats before pickup at no extra cost. On VIP the seats are pre-installed as standard practice; on VIP we confirm availability if you book same-day.

Children do not add to the price. The rate is per vehicle.

Resorts, Casa de Campo and villas

All-inclusive resorts in Bayahibe and Dominicus have a guarded gate. We drop you at the lobby entrance where the bellman meets the car; a few properties ask the driver to register at the gate, which adds two or three minutes.

Casa de Campo is a private resort community with its own security post. Send the villa number or the hotel building, and the reservation name it is booked under — guest lists are checked at the gate, and we pass the vehicle details ahead of your arrival so nobody is negotiating at a barrier at midnight. The same applies to villas in Dominicus and rental homes around Bayahibe village.

Payment

Cash in USD or Dominican pesos to the driver at drop-off, or bank transfer before arrival. No prepayment holds the booking — your confirmed WhatsApp message with the written price is the booking.

The price we confirm is the price at drop-off. Drivers do not renegotiate, and there are no airport surcharges added at the curb.

Groups and extra luggage

1–6 passengers ride in an SUV or minivan. 7–14 uses a passenger van (VIP +$40 on local zones). Golf bags for Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore, dive gear for the Bayahibe boats, wheelchairs and strollers are all fine — tell us the count so we send the right vehicle instead of guessing.

Why pre-booking matters at LRM

LRM is small, and so is the taxi rank outside it. When a charter lands, the handful of waiting cars is taken within minutes, and the fares quoted for Bayahibe or Dominicus are negotiated on the spot while you stand with luggage. Ride-hailing apps do not operate reliably in La Romana, and there is no public bus from the terminal.

A pre-booked private car removes that conversation entirely: the name sign, the written price and the vehicle class are all agreed before you take off.

Step by step, from wheels-down to lobby

One: you send the flight number, the hotel or villa name and the passenger count on WhatsApp, and get the fixed price back in writing. Two: we track the flight, so a delay or a diversion moves the pickup, not the price. Three: you clear immigration and baggage — usually 15 to 30 minutes at LRM, since everything happens in one small hall — and walk out to a driver holding a printed sign with your name.

Four: the car leaves within a few minutes of you reaching it; waiting is already included. Five: you pay at the end of the ride, in dollars or pesos, exactly the number written before you flew. For the flight home the same desk confirms the lobby pickup the day before, using the departure buffer for your zone.

Long-haul drops: Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and Samaná

Anything past Higüey or west of Juan Dolio is a different kind of job. Miches sits 2.5–3 hours north-east of La Romana once you cross the interior road; Santo Domingo and Las Américas airport are 1 h 45 to 2 hours west on Autovía del Este. The car is dispatched earlier, the driver carries water for the whole group, and we build in one comfort stop if you want it.

Prices stay fixed and per vehicle: Miches $240 VIP, Santo Domingo or SDQ $110 / $180. For the return we leave the lobby around 5 hours before a Miches flight and 4 hours from the capital.

Night arrivals

Flights landing between 22:00 and 04:00 pay the same fixed rate — there is no night surcharge and no minimum. Late charters are common at LRM, and the arrivals area is quiet at that hour, which makes the name sign easy to spot: the driver stands directly opposite the customs exit.

If your phone is dead when you land, do not look for Wi-Fi. Walk out and read the signs; the desk already knows your flight number and holds the car until you appear.
