What LRM is and where it sits
LRM has a main commercial terminal and a separate general aviation terminal, west of it, for private and executive aviation. Confirm which terminal your flight uses with the operator or ground handler. Commercial-arrivals instructions do not automatically apply to a private flight; ‘charter’ alone does not identify the terminal.
Arrivals: from wheels down to the curb
The commercial-arrival guidance below covers immigration, baggage, customs and meeting your driver at the commercial terminal. For a private-flight arrival, first confirm the terminal and permitted meeting point with the operator or handler.
If you have landed but your suitcase has not arrived, follow our guide to reporting missing baggage and coordinating your hotel transfer. Contact dispatch while you complete the airline's required steps, before heading to the meeting point.
Where your driver waits
For a confirmed commercial-terminal pickup, the driver meets you in the arrivals greeting area after customs with your name sign. For private aviation, agree the permitted exit and meeting place with the operator or handler and dispatch. Do not assume the commercial exit, apron access or a greeting beside the aircraft.
Arriving on a private flight? Confirm your FBO meeting point and Casa de Campo transfer with the operator, handler and dispatch before arrival.
Getting from LRM to your hotel: the honest comparison
Private transfer: a vehicle for your group only, booked with a fixed written price before you fly, driver waiting with a name sign. From $59 to La Romana city, $65 to Casa de Campo, $79 to Bayahibe and $85 to Dominicus, per vehicle and one-way.
Airport taxi: a small official rank works the curb. It is legitimate, but the rank is tiny — when a charter lands the waiting cars are gone within minutes, and the fare is negotiated on the spot while you stand with luggage. Quotes for Bayahibe or Dominicus routinely land above the fixed rates above.
Uber and ride-hailing apps: do not plan on them. Coverage in La Romana is thin and airport pickups are unreliable; a driver who accepts may cancel or never arrive.
Rental car: makes sense if you intend to explore the interior or the coast daily. For a resort stay it means airport paperwork on arrival, a deposit hold, unfamiliar night driving and parking at a property where you will barely use the car.
Shared shuttle: LRM has no regular scheduled shuttle network of its own, and there is no public bus from the terminal. Anything sold as a shared transfer here will usually wait for other flights before departing.
Departing from LRM
Check-in and security at LRM are quick, but the terminal is small and queues form in one place. Two hours before departure is comfortable for La Romana city and Casa de Campo, 2.5 hours from Bayahibe and Dominicus once you add the drive, and four hours if you are coming from the Punta Cana side.
For the return leg we confirm the lobby pickup time the day before by WhatsApp, using your flight time and your zone. The same fixed zone price applies in that direction.
Practical facts worth knowing before you land
Currency: US dollars are accepted everywhere along this coast; Dominican pesos give you a better rate in local shops and restaurants. You do not need pesos to pay a transfer — dollars, pesos or a bank transfer all work.
Connectivity: terminal Wi-Fi is patchy. Buy an eSIM before you fly if you want to be online the moment you land — although you do not need a phone to find a driver holding your name.
Family and group travel: infant seats and boosters are installed before pickup at no extra cost, and 7 to 14 passengers travel in a van. Golf bags for Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore, dive gear for the Bayahibe boats, wheelchairs and strollers all fit if you tell us the count when you book.
Arriving at LRM for the first time
If this is your first landing in La Romana, these guides cover the arrivals hall step by step, what the terminal actually contains, how long the walk out takes, and which approaches at the curb to ignore.
Costs, taxis and alternatives
What a ride actually costs at LRM, how taxi quotes at the rank compare with a fixed booked price, and when a rental car or a ride-hailing app is or is not worth it.
Timing, night flights and the way home
Drive times by zone, what changes on a 1 a.m. charter, when to leave your hotel for the flight home, and what happens if your flight is delayed or cancelled.
If your holiday uses different arrival and departure airports, plan both airport transfers from your actual itinerary.
